Meet Our Team

TOBEY GREY

TRAINER & BEHAVIORIST/ OWNER

“Animal owners often want a life for their pets they simply don’t have the time, information, or energy to execute. Canine Comprehensive was born out of an idea: helping people communicate and live in harmony with their dogs. I want to help your dog have the fullest life possible.”

Always drawn to large breeds, Tobey owned a string of rescue dogs with aggression problems and saw how challenging it was to own a dog in a city with a full time job. They worked for 15 years in the restaurant industry doing openings. While working with people was amazing, late nights behind a bar and working inside grew tiring.

After years of rehabilitating foster dogs, devouring training theory, and attending behavioral seminars Canine Comprehensive was born in 2014. The goal was supporting owners in giving their dogs a full life, and in a city environment. In their spare time, Tobey volunteers with various Bay Area rescues training and fostering shelter dogs to help them find homes. At home Tobey lives with a big block headed Staffordshire Terrier named Eddie (on the right).

Kalif Lee

trainER & BEHAVIORIST

“The bond between human and canine has always fascinated me. My work at Canine Comprehensive allows me to experience it up close and personal on a daily basis, and help dog owners strengthen that bond with their own pet.”

Kalif has an extensive background in education and has worked with children in various settings delivering educational training centered on diversity and nonviolent conflict resolution. Before joining our team in 2021, Kalif taught children at the Oakland Zoo on conservation, animal health, and welfare. His educational background makes him adept at helping clients learn how to improve their handling, and get lasting results. He also works directly with dogs at our Board and Train program.

Kalif shares his life with his dogs ALA (Pitbull x Heeler x Husky) and Pok (Czech Wolfdog x Malinois).

Jennifer mckenna

PACK LEAD

"It is hard to explain the sense of fulfillment that I receive simply by enriching animals’ lives though taking them outdoors, enforcing their training and appreciating their individual temperaments."

Jennifer came to us for training help for her reactive dog Finn in 2020. Throughout the training process, Jennifer fell in love with the world of dog training and thoroughly enjoyed the process of watching Finn gain confidence and become a happier dog. She now walks dogs, helps out at our facility, and works on the administrative side of our Dog Walking business. Jennifer has extensive experience working in museums and archives, and has been volunteering at The Lindsay Wildlife Experience since 2018!

Jennifer loves being outdoors, and in her spare time races sailboats in the San Francisco Bay, spends time with Finn, their 5 cats, and family gecko.

MARS BAIRD

DOG WALKER/ Kennel tech

“To have the opportunity to enrich the lives of so many animals on a personal level is immensely rewarding and I could not be more grateful for the experiences I’ve had that led me here.”

Mars joined our team fresh from a move from Portland to their home in the Bay, and they are a wonderful addition to our compassionate team. Mars has spent their entire life around animals and sees dogs as kindred spirits. They have worked as a manager with boarding facilities and dog-daycares, have grooming experience, and in their responsibilities prioritize making connections with dogs and their humans for everyone's comfort.

Mars’ favorite thing about dogs is the infinite variety of personalities; each dogs’ energy is infectious, and they love to match it. In the future, Mars hopes to go back to school for Zoology, and expand a career in animal care and welfare.

In their spare time, Mars hangs out with their cat, Sebastian, and is counting down the days to their next canine family member.

DOG WALKER/ Kennel tech

"Working with animals is always an adventure. There's no better feeling than forming a bond with a dog, learning how to communicate with them and ultimately making a difference in their life and the lives of their owners!”

A Ventura County native, Kat fell in love with the East Bay area and it’s animals in equal measure. With 4+ years of professional work in animal care, Kat’s warm and studied expertise (built in animal shelters and doggie daycares) blossoms in her work with our team and families.

Kat spends her life with her Chihuahua-Dachshund mix named Chaz and a cat named Furgie.

Nico weaver

DOG WALKER

“I’ve loved dogs all of my life, and am grateful to have the opportunity to transition my interest to a professional experience. I love to learn about each dog, their personalities, and see how we can mututally enrich our lives.”

Nico’s specialty lies in collaboration, having worked in an array of educational and administrative roles over 7+ years. After feeling stifled by offices, conference rooms, and classrooms, he began considering ways he could merge his love for teaching with a more fulfilling lifestyle (one without all the emails!).

After his return to the East Bay after a decade in the Humboldt Redwoods, we jumped at the chance to welcome him to the team.

In his spare time, you can find Nico doing yoga, listening to audiobooks or knitting socks.

Casey Frey

OFFICE MANAGER

“I’m humbled to be working alongside, and supporting, such a diverse team of personality and expertise. Grateful to be a part of a bigger picture helping folks care for their furry family.”

Casey joined our team with the drive to better the lives of others through empathy and organization. With 5+ years of experience in administrative project management across various industries (Life Sciences, Entertainment, Higher Education) and expertise in accessible social media, Casey offers a robust multidisciplinary skillset when supporting our walkers, dogs, and their parents. They take pride in the office day-to-days, ensuring the CC team performs their best.

During their free time, they like to stream video games and hang with their needy Siamese kitty, Emi.
